Frequently Asked Questions

Do you accept insurance?
Yes. Inner Healing Counseling currently accepts Aetna, Anthem Blue Cross Blue Shield, Cigna, and Select Health. Insurance participation may vary by specific plan, so I recommend confirming your behavioral health benefits and in-network status with your insurance company before beginning services.

What are your private-pay rates?
Individual therapy is $175 per 53–60 minute session, and couples therapy is $200 per 53–60 minute session. A limited number of reduced-fee appointments may be available based on financial need and current availability. Additional information is available on the Insurance & Fees page.

Do you offer in-person and telehealth appointments?
Yes. In-person appointments are available in Colorado Springs, and secure telehealth appointments are available for clients located throughout Colorado.

What can I expect during my first session?
Your first session is an opportunity for us to begin getting to know one another and better understand what brings you to therapy. We'll discuss your current concerns, relevant history, goals for therapy, and what you hope will be different as a result of our work together. We'll also begin discussing recommendations for treatment and make sure you have an opportunity to ask questions about the therapy process.

How long are therapy sessions?
Standard individual and couples therapy appointments are typically 53–60 minutes. Session length may vary when clinically appropriate and will be discussed in advance when possible.

What types of concerns do you work with?
I work with individuals and couples experiencing concerns such as anxiety, trauma, relationship difficulties, attachment and interpersonal patterns, emotional distress, life transitions, communication difficulties, relational injuries, and other experiences that may be affecting emotional or relational well-being.

What is EMDR?
Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) is an evidence-based therapy commonly used to treat trauma and other distressing experiences. EMDR uses bilateral stimulation while helping the brain process memories, emotions, beliefs, and experiences that may continue to feel “stuck.” EMDR treatment is individualized, and we will spend time assessing readiness and building appropriate resources before beginning trauma processing.

Do I have to talk about every detail of my trauma during EMDR?
No. EMDR does not require you to describe every detail of a traumatic experience. While we will need enough information to understand what you are experiencing and develop an appropriate treatment plan, EMDR can often address distressing experiences without an extensive verbal retelling of everything that occurred.

How does couples therapy work?
Couples therapy focuses on the relationship and the patterns occurring between partners. We'll work to better understand recurring cycles, improve communication and emotional safety, address areas of hurt or disconnection, and strengthen healthier ways of relating to one another. Both partners are active participants in the therapeutic process.

Can I use insurance for couples therapy?
Possibly. Insurance coverage for couples therapy varies by plan and generally requires treatment to be medically necessary for a diagnosed mental health condition of the identified client. Therapy provided solely for relationship enhancement may not be covered. We can discuss whether using insurance is appropriate for your circumstances before treatment begins.

What is your cancellation policy?
I understand that schedules and unexpected circumstances can change. Because appointment times are reserved specifically for you, cancellations and missed appointments are subject to the cancellation policy outlined in your practice paperwork. Insurance generally does not cover late-cancellation or missed-appointment fees.
